Welcome to the Rockford Photo Club Website. We begin yet another exciting year for our photo club. January began with the cancellation of our first meeting due to the extreme cold. Hopefully the weather will cooperate as we head on into January and look forward to the spring months ahead.
2014 was a great year. We have increased our membership and current members have stepped up their photography in big ways. That is evident by the huge improvement in the photos being entered for contests and also for displays. Members are taking more pride in their photos and their individiual abilities. The two contest categories continued to be successful in 2014. Those members who choose to use only their cameras to create their photos have increased. Part of being a photographer is knowing your camera and knowing how to take great photos without having to rely on Lightroom and Photoshop. That category - the Realistic Category - continues to be a big contest category. For those members who want to test their creative side and use Lightroom and Photoshop, the Enhanced Category is for them. There have been some gorgeous enhanced photos entered in contests. The two contest category continue to compliment each other and gives the membership two great choices for entering contests.
Not only did we have great contests, but also some great programs. Jim Spelman welcomed us to his studio and demonstrated how lighting can affect your photos. Members were treated with the opportunity to photograph raptors when the Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab brought out their beautiful birds for the club to photograph. And in the fall the club traveled to Pecatonica and members had the opportunity to photograph the clydesdales. I believe all club members have made big advances in their photography. It's important to realize that one can never stop learning. In this digital photography world, techniques always change. Don't forget to think out of the box. Remember being a good photographer is being well-rounded. Get to know your camera and what it can do. And practice. During 2014 we have also welcomed many new members of all different skill levels and we always welcome anybody interested in joining us. It's never too late to begin photography. Come join us. Learn what we are about. This year's agenda has something for everybody.
The Rockford Photo Club generally holds it's meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. We currently meet in the lower level meeting room of the Riverfront Museum Park Building, 711 North Main Street, Rockford. We welcome visitors as well as new members. Come and check us out!
